Turkey expels Israeli ambassador

Turkey finally takes steps after Israel repeatedly refused to apologize and pay compensation for the killing of nine Turks and wounding scores of others aboard the Mavi Marmara, the flagship of the free Gaza Flotilla, on 31 May 2010.

AP reports:
Turkey says it is expelling the Israeli ambassador and cutting military ties with Israel over the country's refusal to apologize for last year's deadly raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla.
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Friday Turkey is downgrading diplomatic ties to the level of second secretary and that the ambassador will leave Turkey by Wednesday.
Davutoglu also said Turkey was suspending all military agreements signed between the former allies, saying "it is time Israel pays a price."

AJE adds: "Israel, in fact, has misused many of the chances that were given to them and the Israeli government, on the other hand, see themselves [as being] above international laws and human conscience," Davutoglu said in prefacing the actions his government is taking.

The Turkish newspaper Hürriyet said that Davutoğlu announced five measures that the Turkish government would take against Israel:
1. Downgrade diplomatic ties between the two countries to level of second secretary.
2. All military agreements will be put on hold.
3. Turkey will take measures for freedom of maritime movement in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
4. Turkey will no longer recognize the Gaza blockade and will take the issue to the International Court of Justice.
5. Turkey will support all flotilla victims, Turkish and foreign, in court.

Het is onbegrijpelijk hoeveel schade Israel bereid is zich zelf aan te doen om toch maar niet dat ene woordje te hoeven uitspreken:sorry.
